CAS Vietri Dionysus Bacchus Wall Mask Plaque Italian Majolica 1950s

Mid Century C.A.S. Vietri Italy aqua green  glaze earthenware ceramic mask for wall mounting.  The glaze is very thick. In excellent condition. This mask has no defects, but it may show slight traces of use. Very light wear consistent with age. Some bubbles evident in the glaze consistent with production method. Marked on the underside as “C.A.S. Vietri Italy” Ceramica Artistica Solimene CAS is in Vietri sul Mar on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, they have been operating since 1947 and the family has been working for more than a century in the ceramic business, Architect Paolo Soleri designed and built their new factory in 1951. It was completed by 1954 and was called “Ceramica Artistica Solimene”. It is one of the most significant buildings of this century, standing on solid rock in the small town of Vietri Sul Mare on the Amalfi coast, which is famous for its ancient tradicion of ceramic craftmanship going back to the 15th century.
